Title: Sunrise Rose
This painting is appears to be an abstraction but its a photorealistic watercolor of a yellow rose viewed so close up that it becomes a sky at sunrise, or a bright tree fungus or maybe the peel of an orange fluttering your way. The image was captured at Butchart Gardens near Victoria, BC which his flower porn for plant lovers! More vivid blooms you can imagine confront you at every turn all healthy and in harmonious beds with other flowers.

I'm honored that Sunrise Rose was selected to be part of a large regional juried show at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art in the summer of 2023! Watercolor is my medium. I zoom in and compose from my photos to fill a picture plane with a compelling design that takes the viewer into an abstract and sensual world. I look for beautiful transitions of color or textures that could be expressed luminously with my many glazes of watercolor, or that might provide an opportunity for me to try new painting techniques.
