Title: Flounce

With petals flying back this flower plunges downward, reaching out to spread its beauty to all who pass by. The dark background creates additional drama. The original watercolor painting is a large 22.5 x 30". The flower was captured near the mansion of Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island, WA, just down the road from where I live. It is part of a show I'm preparing for April 2023 at Scott Milo Gallery in Anacortes, WA. The title of my show is "From Darkness Blooms". Come and see it!

Watercolor is my medium. I zoom in and compose from my photos to fill a picture plane with a compelling design that takes the viewer into an abstract and sensual world. I look for beautiful transitions of color or textures that could be expressed luminously with my many glazes of watercolor, or that might provide an opportunity for me to try new painting techniques. I paint the inner landscape of flowers calling these works Floralscapes. The shapes, designs and patterns inside flowers and plants are the subject that awakened my love of painting, giving me a chance to create images of stunning beauty while merging realism with an abstract sense of design.
