Title: Sedona Agave #2
After a trip to the Southwest and a painting series titled Persistence of Pink, showing macro views of pink flowers I decided to do a series of succulents. Painting this neutral colored agave was a big change, not only in color choices but a much larger size of paper than I'd tried before! I painted a companion painting, Sedona Agave #1 with a similar palette and the same size so they could be displayed as a diptych with a commanding presence. Also consider a triptych of prints with "Morning Beauty", a painting the same size and palette, to create a large display! This is part of my 2018 work toward a November show in Anacortes, WA. My watercolors reproduce beautifully as prints or on canvas.
For the past few years I've been painting flowers up so close that they envelope the viewer in their sensuality and rich color. Enlarged, they become almost abstractions from nature without seeing the outer shape or the environment around them.

Watercolor is my medium. I zoom in and compose from my photos to fill a picture plane with a compelling design that takes the viewer into an abstract and sensual world. I look for beautiful transitions of color or textures that could be expressed luminously with my many glazes of watercolor, or that might provide an opportunity for me to try new painting techniques. I paint the inner landscape of flowers calling these works Floralscapes. The shapes, designs and patterns inside flowers and plants are the subject that awakened my love of painting, giving me a chance to create images of stunning beauty while merging realism with an abstract sense of design.
