The grapes on the vines over my home's entry always ripen at different rates. It's hard to wait for each whole bunch of grapes to be fully ripened before starting to eat them off. But the colors as they go from yellow-green to deep reddish purple are a fun subject to paint as each shape has its own gradients of color creating a field of bubbling delight, glowing in the sunshine.
For the past year I've been painting flowers and plant life up so close that they envelope the viewer in their sensuality and rich color. Enlarged, they become almost abstractions from nature without seeing the outer shape or the environment around them. I call these paintings Floralscapes.

Watercolor is my medium. I zoom in and compose from my photos to fill a picture plane with a compelling design that takes the viewer into an abstract and sensual world. I look for beautiful transitions of color or textures that could be expressed luminously with my many glazes of watercolor, or that might provide an opportunity for me to try new painting techniques. I paint the inner landscape of flowers calling these works Floralscapes. The shapes, designs and patterns inside flowers and plants are the subject that awakened my love of painting, giving me a chance to create images of stunning beauty while merging realism with an abstract sense of design.
