This painting is of an opening peony done in transparent watercolor on a full sheet of Arches 300 lb cold press. It is framed floating on archival backing to expose the deckle edge of the heavy paper and framed with a contemporary white metal 1 inch frame. It's part of a series of pink paintings for my show "Persistence of Pink" and has been juried into The Art of the Garden show at Schack Art Center in Everett, WA for the summer of 2017.
The art is professionally photographed which will make reproductions impossible to discern from the original painting other than the deckle edge of the painting which is part of the original art.
For the past few years I've been painting flowers up so close that they envelope the viewer in their sensuality and rich color. Enlarged, they become almost abstractions from nature without seeing the outer shape or the environment around them.

Watercolor is my medium. I zoom in and compose from my photos to fill a picture plane with a compelling design that takes the viewer into an abstract and sensual world. I look for beautiful transitions of color or textures that could be expressed luminously with my many glazes of watercolor, or that might provide an opportunity for me to try new painting techniques. I paint the inner landscape of flowers calling these works Floralscapes. The shapes, designs and patterns inside flowers and plants are the subject that awakened my love of painting, giving me a chance to create images of stunning beauty while merging realism with an abstract sense of design.
