"Bursting Open" was created as a partner painting for an earlier watercolor of a Christmas Cactus bud titled "Bursting Forth" below, as its color sprung from its green succulent leaves. Â The blooms are funny looking, not as graceful as the tiny buds and mine never seem to bloom at Christmas! Â My plants seem to like Thanksgiving and spring blooming times. Â But these are classic red/green holiday colors. Â With "Bursting Forth", you can have a nice diptych, either end to end or facing each other! Â I love the gradients of the colors....smooth in the petals and textured in the leaves.
I'm pleased that this painting is being shown with the Northwest Watercolor Society Signature members at the Schack Art Center in Everett, WA through January 2, 2022.
Watercolor is my medium. I zoom in and compose from my photos to fill a picture plane with a compelling design that takes the viewer into an abstract and sensual world. I look for beautiful transitions of color or textures that could be expressed luminously with my many glazes of watercolor, or that might provide an opportunity for me to try new painting techniques. I paint the inner landscape of flowers calling these works Floralscapes. The shapes, designs and patterns inside flowers and plants are the subject that awakened my love of painting, giving me a chance to create images of stunning beauty while merging realism with an abstract sense of design.
