About Sandy Haight
For the past 6 years I’ve offered a class at Bellevue College in Watercolor for Illustration to help students learn to control the watercolor process. Inspiration from teaching has created a renewed interest and immersion in painting subjects I love. Recently, I’ve focused on painting the abstraction of patterns seen inside floral and plant life. I call this series Floralscapes. I’m really loving this new direction and its become my primary focus as an artist. This work can be seen on my fine art web site at http://sandyhaightfineart.com along with my sumi and figure work.
Watercolor was first introduced to me in a life drawing class. I loved the luminosity of the medium so much that I continued to practice on every assignment in my subsequent illustration courses, getting more and more familiar with the planning, strategy and execution of a painting. As I expanded the portfolio, my illustration career was launched. I have always loved the sensuality of this medium, the glow of the colors and the fact that the paint moves and flows on its own, intermingling with other colors. The use of watercolor in my illustration business is now part of my signature style that has been contracted for use on book jackets, logos, advertising, event promos and in many publications.
I've been using watercolor and ink brush line in my illustration work for nearly 20 years, but in a much more controlled and predictable way. My artwork appears on book jackets, ads, posters, logos and packaging all over the country, in Canada and Europe.
